The purpose of the workshops included the following:

1) Presentation of the novelties of the new Draft Law on Housing and Maintenance of Buildings (2015) which will significantly affect the management and maintenance of residential buildings, and will have a significant impact on the current modus operandi of the assemblies and councils of tenants;
2) Surveying presidents of the residential buildings assemblies and councils of tenants on the current state of management and maintenance of buildings;
3) Discussion on current problems and novelties, introduced in the Draft Law on Housing and Maintenance of Buildings (publicly available version at the moment of workshops organizing).

The workshops brought together 113 presidents of the residential buildings assemblies and councils of tenants from the Municipality of Vračar, which contributed to a very constructive discussion and identification of recommendations for improving the cooperation between the municipality and assemblies and councils of tenants, as well as for the improvement of the Draft Law in segments recognized as potential problems in future implementation of the Law.

"The Municipality of Vračar had very good cooperation with presidents of the residential buildings assemblies and councils of tenants. We have implemented a number of projects together such as the reconstructions and works on the facades, elevators, the front yards and entrances of residential buildings. Now we would like to hear your opinions and experiences concerning the draft Law on Housing and proposed models of management of residential buildings", said dr Tijana Blagojević, Mayor of Vračar.

Workshops and surveys are carried out in the framework of the initiative "Better Housing in Vračar", which is being realized under the Project "Improvement of service delivery at the local level", implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Belgrade Municipality of Vračar. The initiative "Better Housing in Vračar" aims to contribute to the improvement of housing, management and maintenance of residential buildings in the Belgrade Municipality of Vračar.

The initiative is jointly implemented by the Belgrade Municipality of Vračar and OPTIMUS - Center for Good Governance.
